Here is an appropriate end to the 2009 Dusk Patrol Fun Flys.

The last Western Front Dusk Patrol Fun Fly for 2009

The final "dusk patrol" of the season was held on November 1st.

We had very pleasant weather for November. Temps were comfortable, winds were light, and there was a fair amount of flying.

Harold Zimmerman flew the big (1/4 scale-ish) Fokker E1 that he bought at the Omahawks auction. It's not really what you would call "scale", but it's still an interesting model. It has built-up wings but foam fuselage and tail-feathers. It seemed a bit underpowered and had some trim issues, but was really neat to see flying nonetheless. It flies _very_ slow! It should be a fun plane once Harold gets the kinks worked out. (Did I mention that, despite the large size, it's a 3-channel model?!)

Roger Vaad put in a nice flight with his VK Nieuport 17. He seems to be getting the knack for taking off with it (it's a handful on the ground!), and also did a fine job of landing when it went deadstick due to muffler issues.

I managed to "commit aviation" a couple of times with the trusty H9 Sopwith Camel.

This was the first time I had flown it since switching radios, but it didn't take long to get things sorted out since the "new" radio is another old Hitec Prism 7 just like the old one. *grin* I even managed to do a decent landing the first time, but the final flight ended with the Camel going on its back rather forcefully which resulted in some minor damage to the fin and rudder. It will soon be repaired and ready for action again, which is good because the weather forecast for next weekend looks very promising! *grin*

Terry Lamm fired up the Dynaflite SE5a and had some good flights. He seems much happier with the plane now that he has switched from glow to gasoline power.
Terry also provided the food for the day and did most of the cooking. Thanks again, Terry!

Steve, Don, John G., and the gang were there too, which always makes for a fun time. All in all, it was a good day of flying with some good flyin' buddies. What could be better?
